School Visit Program

This Fall OSF comes to YOU with the relaunch of the School Visit Program!
Our exciting School Visit Program includes a visit to your school’s theatre, auditorium, or gymnasium, featuring live performances, talkbacks, and workshops—all designed to entertain and educate students of all ages. Available in the fall of 2024!

OSF founder Angus Bowmer started this program over 40 years ago with one simple goal: to bring Shakespeare into as many schools as possible. We are proud to continue this legacy that for many students will be their first and sometimes only exposure to theatre and Shakespeare’s plays in performance.

Local previews: September 23-27, 2024. Touring dates: September 30-November 22, 2024.
Offerings

In 2024 OSF will offer two School Visit programs for your students:

Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare – This political drama is perfect for an election year, exploring leadership, loyalty, and questions of choices for personal glory vs. the good of the nation. This performance is a 40-minute accessible adaptation of Shakespeare’s play focusing on the decisions leading to Caesar’s death. This will be an excellent introduction to a Shakespearean play in performance.

The Seven Ages – This literature program uses William Shakespeare’s famous speech from As You Like It, “The Seven Ages of Man,” as the structure for a 40-minute presentation. Utilizing poetry, classic prose, short stories by many contemporary authors, and Shakespeare, The Seven Ages is a delightful introductory theatre experience, guaranteed to please all ages!

Programming

A single day of School Visit Programming includes:

Performances and Talkbacks – Each performance is approximately 40 minutes in length and includes a 10-minute discussion with students following the show. Performances can be scheduled for student groups of 25–500.

Schools may select from the team’s two performance program offerings:

  • Shakespeare program – Julius Caesar
  • Literature program – The Seven Ages

Workshops – Following performances, the team will lead either one 2-hour workshop or up to three 1-hour workshops, limited to 40 students each.

  • The workshop curriculum involves active explorations of Shakespeare and other authors’ text; ideal for language arts and drama classes. Additional workshop time can be scheduled with the purchase of additional SVP days.
Schools are invited to book multiple, consecutive days if desired.
