Concert Versions and Canceled Performances for Once on This Island

Thursday, June 30: Performance Canceled

Due to illness and injury, OSF has unfortunately had to cancel the Thursday, June 30 performance of Once on This Island.

All roles in Once on This Island are understudied as with all OSF shows—with multiple roles doubly understudied for this demanding production. Despite best efforts to activate solutions, we must prioritize the health and safety of our performers and crews, and have decided that it is not possible for us to present the show safely. As we get further clarity on the developing situation, we will update the public for the rest of the performances this week.

Currently, patrons with tickets to canceled performances of Once on This Island may choose one of the following options:

  • Exchange their ticket(s) for a different performance date
  • View an HD stream of the production (available starting mid-June)
  • Receive a voucher for the amount of their ticket(s), good through 10/31/2023
  • Refund their ticket(s)
  • Donate the value of their ticket(s) to OSF.

All ticket holders receive an email at the moment of cancelation, as well as a text if they are signed up for SMS messages. In addition, patrons can call the Box Office for more information or to submit the option they choose. Current hours can be found at Box Office Contact and Hours

Concert Performance

In lieu of canceling performances of Once on This Island due to multiple breakthrough cases of COVID and/or injuries, the cast will perform a special concert version of the full production. The company—some of whom will play an additional role—will sing and act the full show in the Bowmer with live musical accompaniment of the full score. We are thankful to the company of Once on This Island for their work in putting together this exciting new version to share with our audiences!

Wednesday, June 15-Thursday, June 16: Performances will be the special concert version. Ticket holders who are email subscribers will receive more details in an email, including options to change or refund their ticket(s).

Frequently Asked Questions
  1. Why isn't OSF staging the full version of the show?

The concert version allows us to continue sharing this inspiring story with our audiences and keep our artists as safe as possible—without compromising the original artistry of the show. Some actors are doubling roles in ways that cannot be supported in a staged production.

  2. I’ve already seen the production! Is this version of the performance different?

Yes! While this is a concert version of the original production with minimal staging and gestures towards the original style, we expect this experience to be a special version of this beautiful show.

  3. What future performances are planned as concert versions?

As of June 13, 2022, the performances on Wednesday, June 15 and Thursday, June 16 are planned to be the special concert version. Ticket holders who are email subscribers will receive more details in an email, including options to change or refund their ticket(s).

  4. I have more questions! Who can I contact?
