THE GREEN SHOW - JULY 2022 SCHEDULE OF EVENTS

Friday, July 1
Ballet Folklorico Ritmo Alegre

Local Mexican folk dance troupe Ballet Folklorico Ritmo Alegre has performed traditional dances from many states of Mexico for over 20 years. The group's mission is to empower youth through dance and serve as cultural ambassador for Mexican folk culture to create bridges of celebration and friendship across the community. Ballet Folklorico Ritmo Alegre provides dance classes for all ages at its dance center in Medford and performs in local festivals, parades, and school events. The group’s programming is guided by Artistic Director Luisa Zaragoz, who is credentialed as Master Instructor/Director through the Amalia Hernandez School of Ballet Folklorico in Mexico City.

Saturday, July 2
Jeff K & OverTones

Popular Southern Oregon singer-songwriter Jeff Kloetzel joins forces with the exciting and dynamic rhythm section known as OverTones. Together, they have thrilled audiences for over eight years. They have been seen on the main stage at the Britt Festival, opening for such artists as Rick Springfield, and have been featured on the Garden stage during visits by legendary artists Chicago and Boz Scaggs. Their performance is a high-energy and fun experience.

Wednesday, July 6
Salsa Brava!

Salsa Brava! is a seven-piece dance band influenced by the melding of African rhythms and European harmonies that occurred in Cuba and was later enriched by elements of jazz, rock, and soul music in New York's Spanish Harlem, becoming that unique, spicy music known as salsa. They play a rich array of dance styles, including Afro Cuban salsa, son Cubano, merengue, bachata, cha-cha, plena, and Latin pop. Bluesy horn solos weave together over upbeat polyrhythms created by piano montuno and the percussive rhythm patterns of congas, timbales, and bass. Balancing out the instrumentals are the vocal leads and harmonic choruses, creating a scintillating music that makes the body want to move. Artists and groups that have influenced the band’s selections include—but are not limited to—Celia Cruz, Tito Puente, Cachao, Mongo Santamaria, Dizzy Gillepsie, Mark Anthony, Gloria Estefan, Buena Vista Social Club, and Los Van Van.

Thursday, July 7
Shine Swing

Steve Shine (guitars and vocals), John Galloway (bass and vocals), and Cathy Dorris (hand drums and vocals) have been performing with a wide range of music groups and genres for more than 10 years in the Rogue Valley, at wineries and assorted other venues.

Friday, July 8
Gene Burnett

Ashland-based Gene Burnett is an acoustic troubadour who sings heartfelt songs for thinking people. Since he began performing professionally in 1975, he has released over 30 albums.

Saturday, July 9
Tobago Breeze

These joyful artists blend musical genres into what they instinctively branded Parrothead Jazz. The group performs with the relaxed sophistication of contemporary jazz and the playfulness of a Caribbean calypso plus the danceability of funky old-school R&B. They are currently recording their fourth album. This concert experience is presented on a foundation of grooving bass lines and hot spicy Latin percussion layered with original hooky sing-along melodies articulated on Trinidadian steel pan/drum. Audiences will discover why over 50,000 fans worldwide follow this fun group.

Wednesday, July 13
Alice DiMicele

For over three decades Alice DiMicele has been moving people with her brand of “organic acoustic groove.” Whether playing solo, in duo with her longtime bassist Rob Kohler, or with her aptly named band Force of Nature, DiMicele brings her wide-ranging vocal prowess, humor, and distinctive guitar style to festival stages, theaters, music clubs, and house concerts. Born and raised in New Jersey, and firmly transplanted since 1986 in the fertile Southern Oregon soil, DiMicele's music encompasses both city savvy and country innocence.

Thursday, July 14
Surrija

Surrija (Sur-rye-ya) grew up in Hong Kong, where there was a constant collision of Cantonese, British, and American influences. She was a classically trained pianist from the age of five, augmenting her traditional musical education with a healthy dose of eclectic pop mixtapes, thrown together without any real context or cultural boundaries. This loose musical affiliation helped shape her unique sound, which falls somewhere between the tactile musings of Fiona Apple and the abstract glitchiness of James Blake. Surrija’s previous incarnation, under her given name, Jane Lui (who, with band member Abraham Kim, appeared in OSF’s Cambodian Rock Band), was prolific, with three albums and a handful of viral singles and covers to satiate a YouTube channel that chalked up over 30k subscribers.

Friday, July 15
Southern Oregon University Theatre

Saturday, July 16
HuDost

HuDost weaves a seamless tapestry of folk, world, and rock music that renders tears and laughter in listeners. The group’s core musicians are Moksha Sommer, from Montréal, and Jemal Wade Hines, from Kentucky. They have toured the U.S., Canada, and Europe constantly since April 2006; in this time, Moksha and Jemal Wade have grown as artists, as seekers, as a couple, and as a family. Since 2015 they have also been highly engaged activists, doing advocacy work as KY Congressional District Representatives for ONE (a non-profit organization working to end extreme poverty and, specifically, the sexism of poverty). HuDost’s new album, Of Water + Mercy, has received rave reviews.

Wednesday, July 20, through Saturday, July 23
Bishop Mayfield and Friends featuring Dave Storie

This energizing funk, blues, and R&B band is fronted by Bishop Mayfield, who, in a career dating to the 1960s, has performed with and opened for such greats as Martha Reeves & The Vandellas, Tower of Power, Jr. Walker All Stars, Ike & Tina Turner, James Brown, and many more. They return to the Green Show for a four-night run.

Wednesday, July 27
Dúo Flamenco

Dúo Flamenco brings their potent mix of Flamenco dance, guitar, song, and percussion back to the Green Show. The group, which formed in 2007 out of a mutual passion for the art form, is a favorite of OSF audiences.

Thursday, July 28, and Friday, July 29
Las Horas

Las Horas is Sebastian Alcaraz, a classical violinist and a pioneer of the renaissance of Andean music; and Federico Behncke, a composer, electronic performer, and sound designer originally from Mendoza, Argentina, and based in Ashland. They combine Andean flutes and percussion with violin, charango, and urban elements.

Saturday, July 30
The Rogue Suspects Latin Dance Tour

The Rogue Suspects’ latest musical venture honors Latin musicians and artists ranging from Santana to Enrique, and is ideal for dancing salsa, bachata, ballroom, merengue, and more.
