Jane Austen (1775–1817)

Jane Austen

Author, Sense and Sensibility

In one season at OSF: Pride and Prejudice.

Despite a small oeuvre consisting of just six novels, Pride and Prejudice, Sense and Sensibility, Mansfield Park, Emma, Persuasion and Northanger Abbey, Jane Austen is considered one of the great writers in the English canon. Although she spent much of her life in country villages, she also lived in Bath and Southampton. She read plays, poetry, sermons, history, travels and politics, and started writing at an early age, always with an eye toward publication. Her novels have been transformed into stage plays, television and film.
