Director, The Tempest

Nicholas C. Avila is thrilled to be directing at the prestigious Oregon Shakespeare Festival. It is especially meaningful for Nicholas to be a part of Nataki Garrett’s first full season as Artistic Director. Originally scheduled in 2020 season, that Tempest was a casualty of the pandemic. Being included in the theatre’s return in 2022 is an immeasurable honor that cannot be put into words. In both 2020 and 2022, countless artists have contributed to this year’s production of The Tempest. Some of the former, while not credited in the program for the latter, made immeasurable contributions and are inextricably woven into the Soul of this production. There are no words of gratitude that can fairly compensate them for what they have given us. Nicholas has directed and/or developed plays in theatres that include La Jolla Playhouse, The Denver Center, South Coast Repertory, The Chance Theater, and Playwrights Foundation among others. Nicholas is a proud graduate of the Yale School of Drama’s Directing program.
