Ashland Taiko

Ashland Taiko

Performing in the 2014 Green Show Saturday, August 30.

This is their second season in the OSF Green Show.

Lively, joyous, powerful Taiko drums Ashland Community teens and adults.

Ashland Taiko began as a school music program in 2000 under the direction of music teacher, Pam Vellutini at the now closed Briscoe Elementary School. Children were introduced to the Japanese art form of drumming during their music classes and those interested had the opportunity to pursue and study Taiko in more depth as a lunch recess program. In the 2001 – 2002 school year, parents and members of the community requested classes and Ashland Taiko was born. Ashland Taiko had its debut performance at the Martin Luther King Celebration in Ashland in 2002.

Ashland Taiko on Community: Ashland Taiko is a community based group with classes and workshops open to adults, teens and children. Our basic principle is to get lost in the playing of Taiko rather then the ego and to encourage those interested to give Taiko a try.

Ashland Taiko does school visitations and workshops to help spread diversity through music.
