new work
In addition to our commitment to producing Shakespeare's plays and other works from the classical canon, OSF is passionately dedicated to the development of new work for our stages. From this season's world premiere of Julie Marie Myatt's Welcome Home, Jenny Sutter, to the second productions of Jeff Whitty's The Further Adventures of Hedda Gabler and Luis Alfaro's Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner and the recently announced world premiere of Bill Cain's Equivocation in 2009, we are proud to nurture and promote the next generation of American playwrights and theatre artists.
We invite you to read about two of our most recently announced initiatives below – "American Revolutions: The U.S. History Cycle" and "Nexthetics".
U.S. History Cycle
Over the next ten years, American Revolutions: the United States History Cycle will create up to 37 new plays sprung from a moment of change, inspiration or conflict in United States history. Coming in June, the announcement of our first round of commissioned writers.
Nexthetics
Nexthetics is the term coined to describe the field of hip-hop and spoken word aesthetics. Last year OSF convened its first in what will hopefully be a series of Hip-Hop Boot Camps, to explore the intersection of Nexthetics and classical theatre.
