OSF Summer Seminar for High School Juniors
Every year, a select group of students just completing their junior year in high school come to Ashland to spend two intensive weeks participating in a wide range of activities designed to introduce them to the many aspects of professional theatre.
Students who attend the Summer Seminar learn about all aspects of the theatre with classes and workshops led by OSF's company of theatre professionals in such areas as theatre administration, fund raising, stage management, technical theatre, Renaissance dance, Shakespearean scansion, audition skills, stage combat, text analysis, movement and voice for the stage.
Students will also see ten plays in the Festival's repertory, work on projects with other students addressing the challenges facing school drama programs and the arts on a national level and become friends with others who care deeply about theatre.
A NOTE ABOUT THE SCHEDULE AND PROGRAMMING
The schedule and programming for the Summer Seminar is demanding. While an extensive theatrical resume is not a requirement for admission to the program, students must have a demonstrated interest in the arts and a background in school or community theatre. Active physical participation is required in workshops such as stage combat, Creating An Ensemble, Renaissance Dance, Exploring Shakespeare’s Language, lighting, scenic painting, Hip-Hop And Shakespeare. Students must be able to study and memorize complex text, function independently and adhere to the physically rigorous Seminar schedule.
ADMISSION
Admission is limited. To be considered, you must complete an application (available in November 2012) requiring thought, self-appraisal and attention to detail. Recommendations from teachers and other adults are required. We are seeking students of diverse backgrounds.
COST
The fee of $2,065.00 includes tuition, play tickets plus room and board at Southern Oregon University. Thanks to the generous contributions of many OSF patrons, scholarships are available. Scholarships are based on financial need. Financial aid information is sent out to students who are accepted into the program.
