Hot jazz and blues from the 1920s, 30s and beyond!
Formed in the fall of 2009 and based in the Rogue Valley, the Bathtub Gin Serenaders serve up smoking hot jazz and blues from the 1920s, 30s and beyond. The band features the incomparable Ila Selene on lead vocals, Melissa Orr on violin and vocals, Stephany Smith Pearson on accordion, mandolin and vocals, Eric Von Radics on guitar and vocals, Lawrence Newcomb on clarinet and saxophone, David Orr on ukulele bass, Chris Matthews on drums and Chari Weatherford on washboard. Lawrence, Melissa and Eric trades hot lead licks while Ila, Stephany and Melissa weave together tight harmonies that inspire comparisons to the Boswell Sisters, all resting on a solid foundation of swinging rhythm. This potent interplay of vocal harmony, instrumental mastery and rhythmic swing sets the band apart from their local peers. It’s good-time dance music that makes people smile. In 2011, the band released its first CD Me and My Gin, covering jazz classics such as “I Can't Give You Anything But Love”, “After You've Gone”, “Sweet Georgia Brown”, “Sister Kate”, “Shine”, “St. James Infirmary Blues” and the “St. Louis Blues.”
