classes for students

summer seminar for high school juniors

Are you a dedicated high school junior with a passion for theatre? If you are, you may want to apply to OSF's Summer Seminar. Every year, a select group of students just completing their junior year in high school come to Ashland. They spend two intensive weeks participating in a wide range of activities designed to introduce them to the many aspects of professional theatre. Students who attend the Summer Seminar...

  • Learn about all aspects of the theatre with classes and workshops led by OSF's company of theatre professionals in such areas as theatre administration, fund raising, stage management, technical theatre, Renaissance dance, Shakespearean scansion, audition skills, stage combat, text analysis, movement and voice for the stage.
  • See nine plays in the Festival's repertory.
  • Work on projects with other students addressing the challenges facing school drama programs and the arts on a national level.
  • Become friends with others who care deeply about theatre.

A note about the schedule...

The schedule for the Summer Seminar is demanding. Participants are expected to work hard and involve themselves fully in the Seminar's many events.

Admission

Admission is limited. To be considered, you must complete an application (available in November 2011) requiring thought, self-appraisal and attention to detail. Recommendations from teachers and other adults are required. We are seeking students of diverse backgrounds.

Cost

The fee of $1975.00 includes tuition, play tickets plus room and board at Southern Oregon University. Thanks to the generous contributions of many OSF patrons, flexible tuition is available. Tuition assistance is calculated using an assessment of the financial status of the household applying and assessment forms are made available after students are accepted into the program.
