Director of Individual Giving

The Oregon Shakespeare Festival (OSF) is seeking a Director of Individual Giving (DIG), one of three senior members of the Oregon Shakespeare Festival's (OSF) Development team. The DIG identifies, cultivates and solicits individuals for philanthropic gifts (including deferred gifts) for the full range of OSF giving priorities, including gifts for general operating, endowment, capital, and programmatic needs. Successful major gift fundraising field experience and a working knowledge of planned giving techniques are required.

The assignment requires:

  • Serves as the Festival's major gift ($20,000+) officer for prospects, donors and volunteers living in the Rogue Valley, Portland, Seattle, and San Francisco Bay Area.
  • As OSF's planned giving officer, works closely with prospects, donors, OSF Development staff, volunteers, the OSF consulting planned gift attorney, and retained financial/legal advisors as an information resource.
  • In collaboration with the OSF Artistic Director and Director of Development, identifies, cultivates, solicits and stewards OSF members at the Artistic Director's Circle ($20K - $100,000 production sponsorships) and Chautauqua Guild and Chautauqua Guild Circle ($6K - $20K memberships) levels.
  • Markets and raises awareness of opportunities for and advantages of making outright and planned gifts to the OSF Endowment Fund through the creation and implementation of a comprehensive print and web-based communications plan.
  • Creates and implements a comprehensive strategy to increase philanthropic support from individuals for OSF's education programs, including major gifts for key educational priorities and annual gifts through the Bowmer Society.

This full-time exempt position reports to the Director of Development, works with a six-person Development staff, and supervises an Individual Giving Development Associate (dual report).

Minimum qualifications are:
Education: Bachelor's Degree. Work experience beyond minimum requirement will be considered in lieu of this education requirement. Five (5) years of individual giving fundraising experience, in major and planned gifts, preferably in a cultural institution. Knowledge and skills in prospect research, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship.
Preferred: Basic knowledge of planned giving techniques and tax laws impacting charitable giving . Familiarity with and commitment to the work of the Oregon Shakespeare Festival.
This position does require travel of up to 30% of a normal work schedule.

Hair and Wig Run Crew

The Oregon Shakespeare Festival is seeking qualified hair and wig run crew technicians for the 2012 season. Duties include, but are not limited to assisting actors with wig application and removal; assisting with style and maintenance of wigs; maintaining haircuts and hair color as needed; and being an integral member of a show run team. Ventilation skills are a desired asset, but there is room for the right candidate to acquire these skills. A cosmetology license is preferred and expertise with styling and maintaining African-American hair is a highly desired asset, including but not limited to: hair coloring, relaxing, and weaves. Excellent styling skills and innate understanding of theatre etiquette are also required, and above all, the ability to work well with others in a cramped space. Three to five years of experience in regional or professional theatre preferred though strong styling and hairdressing skills may substitute for theatre experience. Other requirements are the abilities to create and maintain a positive work atmosphere by communicating in a professional manner; execute tasks and collaborate efficiently and on deadline; maintain a professional attitude in a fast-paced environment; and work independently and as part of a team. The successful candidate must be able to work on a flexible schedule, including evenings & weekends.

Salary range is between $12.00 and $13.00 per hour, based on experience. Contracts vary in length from 17 to 40 weeks. Some benefits include vacation, and matching retirement program. In addition, contracts over 20 weeks receive medical, dental and vision insurance. Company housing will be available for contracts under 20 weeks. Some relocation expenses may be available for all contracts.

Resident Teaching Artist

Full time position begins March 6, 2012

The Oregon Shakespeare Festival (OSF) is seeking a dynamic, creative person with teaching and curriculum development experience, to join the Festival's education team as Resident Teaching Artist. A professional background working with Shakespeare plays is essential and fluency in Spanish is a plus. Each year, OSF presents an eight-and-a-half-month season of eleven plays in three theatres plus extensive educational offerings to students, teachers and all playgoers.

Duties include teaching classes and workshops; writing and editing of curriculum; assisting the Lead Teaching Artist in training and mentoring prospective teachers; and some administrative work.

To be considered, applicants must have a theatre background (five year minimum), teaching and curriculum development experience, acting experience, excellent public speaking skills, strong interpersonal skills, word processing proficiency and writing skills. Some night and weekend work required. Prior experience working with students of diverse backgrounds preferred. College degree and graduate degree required in theatre education or professional actor training. Professional theatre experience may substitute for graduate work.

Seasonal Teaching Artist

We are seeking a dynamic, creative person with teaching experience to teach in the company’s education programs. Each year, OSF presents an eight-and-a-half-month season of eleven plays in three theatres plus extensive educational offerings to students, teachers and playgoers.

Duties include teaching classes and workshops and providing administrative support for classes for visiting school groups (including greeting groups and creating visual aids), staffing for on-campus events, some administrative work. To be considered, applicants must have a theatre background, teaching and acting experience (two year minimum,) excellent public speaking skills, strong interpersonal skills, organizational skills and word processing proficiency. A background working with Shakespeare’s plays and fluency in Spanish is a plus. Prior experience working with students of diverse backgrounds is preferred. College degree in theatre required. Professional theatre experience preferred.

Housing is available for the length of the contract and some travel expenses may be available. Weekly salary range for this position is between $500 and $600 per week. Final offer will be made based on experience.
