After more than three decades of service, 17 of which have been as OSF’s Executive Director, Paul Nicholson is stepping down on December 31st of this year. Hair and Wig Run Crew

The Oregon Shakespeare Festival is seeking qualified hair and wig run crew technicians for the 2012 season. Duties include, but are not limited to assisting actors with wig application and removal; assisting with style and maintenance of wigs; maintaining haircuts and hair color as needed; and being an integral member of a show run team. Ventilation skills are a desired asset, but there is room for the right candidate to acquire these skills. A cosmetology license is preferred and expertise with styling and maintaining African-American hair is a highly desired asset, including but not limited to: hair coloring, relaxing, and weaves. Excellent styling skills and innate understanding of theatre etiquette are also required, and above all, the ability to work well with others in a cramped space. Three to five years of experience in regional or professional theatre preferred though strong styling and hairdressing skills may substitute for theatre experience. Other requirements are the abilities to create and maintain a positive work atmosphere by communicating in a professional manner; execute tasks and collaborate efficiently and on deadline; maintain a professional attitude in a fast-paced environment; and work independently and as part of a team. The successful candidate must be able to work on a flexible schedule, including evenings & weekends.

Salary range is between $12.00 and $13.00 per hour, based on experience. Contracts vary in length from 17 to 40 weeks. Some benefits include vacation, and matching retirement program. In addition, contracts over 20 weeks receive medical, dental and vision insurance. Company housing will be available for contracts under 20 weeks. Some relocation expenses may be available for all contracts.

Hair and Wig Supervisor

The Oregon Shakespeare Festival is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Hair and Wig room Supervisor. We are searching for an individual who has between 5 – 10 years of professional theatrical or entertainment wig department supervisory experience along with proven work with the design and execution of wigs for theatrical productions. Excellent management and organizational skills along with a proven eye for hair and wig design are essential for being considered for this position.

Duties include, but are not limited to working with Designers on development and implementation of hair and makeup designs for 11 productions in rotating repertory. Technical skills include; advanced ventilation skills, building and styling of wigs for fittings rehearsals and performances, the ability to execute and maintain haircuts, hair color, the ability to work with an acting company of 100 in the application and removal of wigs, knowledge of makeup and stage blood is necessary, expertise with styling and maintaining African-American hair for productions. Oregon State Cosmetology license is preferred.

Management Skills required; proven organizational skills, ability to manage a 7 – 9 person team, innate understanding of theatre etiquette and the ability to work well with others in tight spaces, create and maintain a positive work atmosphere by communicating in a professional manner and the ability to give and take direction, execute tasks and collaborate efficiently and on deadline as well as the ability to maintain a professional attitude in a fast-paced environment. Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational and problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team are also required. The successful candidate will participate in production and departmental meetings, workforce committees as required and must be able to work on a flexible schedule, including evenings & weekends.

This is a full time seasonal exempt position. Salary range is between $32,000 and $45,000 annually based on experience. Benefits include Medical, dental and vision insurance, vacation, and matching retirement program. Some relocation expenses may be available.

Stage Hands

The Oregon Shakespeare Festival (OSF) is searching for stagehands to move, assemble and dismantle scenery for several OSF productions. Experience in basic scenic and properties construction and backstage operations including properties set-up, executing show cues and scene shifting is desirable but not required. Stage Operations has one of the most physically demanding jobs at OSF, with regular lifting of up to 75 lbs. and pushing and pulling forces up to 80 lbs. In addition to the weight requirements, the ability to perform duties such as lifting, pushing, pulling and bending safely and in a fast-pace environment is imperative due to the limited time for changeovers. Due to the high physical nature of the job, a preventive measure of job fitness testing has been implemented to validate the physical capabilities of all stagehands; therefore, the successful candidate will be able to take and pass a physical capabilities test, which pre-selected applicants will arrange in coordination with OSF’s safety department. Also required is the ability to create and maintain a positive work atmosphere by communicating in a professional manner while maintaining a professional attitude in a fast-paced environment.

Contracts vary in length and certain benefits, such as health insurance may be available, based on the length of the contract. Hourly wage is $12.00. Hours vary and average 20 to 40 hours per week depending on our staffing needs for the season.
