Past Influences are Presents
A musical retrospective of musical influences and their inspirations.
I am an 11 year member of the OSF Acting Company who arrived in Ashland from Seattle. Born into a military family, I lived in many different regions of our country as well as overseas before settling in Tacoma, WA. I began playing in bands my sophomore year of high school and continued through my college years. One particular band, New Moon Rising, a New Wave turned Hard Rock group, spent two years touring Western Canada (B.C., Alberta and Saskatchewan) occasionally opening for famous Canadian bands along the way.
G. Val on Community: I belong to a number of communities...A community of Artists here in the Rogue Valley that contribute to the cultural richness to be found here; a community of Theatre Professionals, some employed and some influenced by the Oregon Shakespeare Festival; and culturally as well as Nationally, I am a member of Black America, people who have greatly influenced Performing Arts, Politics, Culinary and Pop Culture as well as Religious and Social Practices since setting foot on North American soil some 400 years ago. I am part of what I term "the Integration Generation" who spent its childhood and adolescence in the troubled wake of America's Civil Rights Movement. As such, I have learned quite naturally to synthesize all I can from the many cultures surrounding me into all I do and am.
