Performing in the 2010 Green Show on Sun July 4
A klezmer 4th of July...The Old World beat.
Website: youngfamilymusic.com
This special July 4th show celebrates the music of the old world with a festive and rousing mix of mostly dance tunes from Eastern Europe, with middle eastern, gypsy and Jewish influences, as well as some updated and contemporary twists and turns. The music will leave you with dancing feet. Klezmer music refers to music originating over 500 years ago in villages throughout eastern Europe, which became cross-pollinated through the itinerant nature of the musicians, and which carries the influences of it's musicians, primarily gypsies and Jews, with many middle eastern flavors, modes, and rhythms. The band is comprised of David, Gabe and Abby Young, who perform together as The Young Family Trio; Dennis Freese (a veteran of OSF Green Show and Vilna's Got a Gollum), Faina Podolnaya (Siskiyou Violins), and members of the Shabbat Shirah Ensemble: Asha Slater, Bella Feldman, Peter Spring and Bari Frimkess. Drummer Tom Stamper joins the group for this performance, and he has recorded in this genre with Bay Area legends The Klezmorim. Under the direction of David Young, all musicians perform locally and regionally in a variety of venues and groupings.
Young Family Trio with The Ashland Klezmer All-Stars on Community: Our community extends to people celebrating life cycle events, festivals, and music in general. We are based in Ashland and the Rogue Valley, but our reach extends to California and places north. Our appeal crosses age, gender, ethnic and cultural boundaries. We are very inclusive in our approach, and our narrative helps to form a community of those present at our performances, helping the audience to feel involved in the event.
