Environmental Vaudeville
Earth-loving, musical juggling and circus family fun!
Website: www.earthcapades.com
EarthCapades Environmental Vaudeville presents unique, memorable, and exciting performances that combine juggling, music, circus skills, storytelling, comedy, and audience participation to teach environmental science and respect for the Earth. EarthCapades was born in 1997 out of Co-Directors Lissin & Hearty's deep commitment to protecting and respecting the Earth, and their love of fun. During the school year, EarthCapades four teams of performers present over 400 assembly programs in schools from coast to coast. During the spring and summer we take to the road to perform at family theaters and festivals including Earth Day and environmental festivals, Museums, Art Fairs, Music Festivals, Oregon Country Fair and more. EarthCapades NW Summer team consists of Lissin & Hearty and their son Kai, age 3, who has been performing since he was 5 months old. If scheduling permits, Zac Matthews, mandolin, guitar and fiddle player and founding member of Hot Buttered Rum, and his partner Dr. Jenny Matthews, pediatrician and stand-up bass player, will be joining us, enhancing the performance with live bluegrass music.
Earthcapades on Community: Creating community and conscious connection is the heart and soul of our lives. Our primary sense of community comes from Shelter Cove, the community of around 30 individuals that we live in just south of San Francisco. Members of the community consider us parental figures, as we have lived there many years and are instrumental in bringing people together for support and celebration. Lissin has been referred to as the "cruise director" for her role in instigating regular potluck gatherings. Lissin and Hearty also met at an intentional community in Tennessee, where we still have friends that are considered family. We plan our tour schedules so that while we are working, we also have time to visit and connect with the close friends, family and colleagues that we have across the United States. In the San Francisco Bay Area that we call home and in our travels, we like to connect to environmental and social justice activists, performers, and families of all shapes and stripes. We also meet interesting people as we seek out biodiesel to fill the fuel tanks of our travel mobiles. As we continue with our life "on the road" as our son gets older, we look forward to connecting with more families, especially families that also spend a good portion of their lives traveling.
