charitable gift annuity flow chart

A charitable remainder trust is a separate tax-exempt account into which you transfer your gift.  OSF will act as trustee and thus handle the investment of the trust assets as well as legal and accounting administrative matters.

OSF can pay you a percentage of the trust’s value as income, typically 5%.  As the value of the trust changes so too does your income.

Alternatively, OSF can pay you a fixed income payment each year based upon a percentage of the funding amount of the trust.

  • Quarterly income for life; support for your spouse or other beneficiaries
  • Potential for growth of income over time
  • Investment diversification
  • No capital gains tax on gifts of appreciated assets
  • Charitable income tax deduction
  • Gift and estate tax savings
  • Investment management services with no separate management fee
  • Significant future support for OSF

A charitable gift annuity is a simple contract between you and OSF that offers a way to provide for income during retirement. A gift annuity can be established for one or two annuitants.

You can begin to receive income right away, or at a predetermined future date. You also can decide when the payments begin within a future time frame, determined when you make your gift. In any case, your income is taxed at a favorable blended rate.

  • Steady, guaranteed lifetime payments, secured by the assets of OSF
  • Charitable income tax deduction
  • Avoidance of capital gains tax
  • Savings on gift and estate taxes
  • Supplement retirement planning without contribution limitations
  • Future support of OSF

  • Minimum gift of $15,000
  • Payments can begin at age 65 for current gift annuities
  • Can be funded with cash, stocks, bonds, mutual funds, or other property
Income rates are based on your age when quarterly payments begin.

For those who do not need income right away, the deferred payment gift annuity allows you to make a gift now but delay the payout for a year or longer.

  • Higher annuity payments because of the deferral date
  • Higher tax deduction that can be taken in the year you create the annuity
  • Steady, guaranteed lifetime payments, that will begin at a specified future date
  • Supplement retirement planning without contribution limitations
  • Avoidance of capital gains tax
  • Savings on gift and estate taxes
  • Future support of OSF
