Actor Royer Bockus meets with Bower Project students

The Bowmer Project for Student Playgoers, students and teachers talk about the impact of this program.

Each year the Bowmer Project for Student Playgoers provides tickets to twelve high school and middle school classes in Jackson, Josephine, Klamath and Siskiyou counties.  Prior to their visit, the teachers attend special workshops that offer strategies for teaching the plays that their students will attend.  During the program, students make two visits to OSF to see two plays, attend a Backstage Tour, and participate in a post-show discussion led by an OSF company member.  All students who complete the program receive a pass to attend selected plays (with a guest) during the season.

This season, there were 10 schools, 12 teachers, and approximately 360 students involved.  Students have written letters thanking the Bowmer Project donors (The Bowmer Society, Wells Fargo, and The Carpenter Foundation) for their experience.  Here are some quotes from those letters.

“I just hope you realize that I will be using that Bowmer +1 Pass so much, I will be using it so much it will probably become worn and thin.  The people at the ticket building will know me just by the sound of my voice.” – Nathaniel

“It means so much to a student like me that you are willing to sponsor this amazing opportunity.  I am in love with storytelling and theater and having a Bowmer Pass the summer before college means the world to me.  Thank you so much for your generous support of education programs like the Bowmer Project that let students of all ages become an active part of the festival, especially those who may not be able to otherwise.” – Rachel

“This experience has encouraged me to be even more involved in theater and I hope to try out and participate in our future plays at North Medford High School.” –Anna

“In early March, my school group saw My Fair Lady.  Needless to say, the show blew me away.  The strength of the performers, and the overall artistic beauty of the show, brought me to tears at some moments.  Overall, I am beyond grateful for the opportunity to see these shows and participate in the Bowmer Project.  I would be honored to use the Pass +1 to see many more shows this season, and help spread the joy of theatre.” – Brandon

“I have never had an opportunity like this before, theater was not very big in my old town, and having something like this, for free, it just means so much to me.  I cannot thank you enough.  I promise I will put this pass to good use.” – Kate

“I would like to extend my deepest gratitude to you for allowing me and my class to receive the Bowmer Project Pass… I will take all my friends to go see every single show, I’m not kidding; I’m going to see every single show.  I especially look forward to seeing King Lear.  I thank you again for allowing me to have these privileges.”
