Ballet Folklorico on Community: Ballet Folklórico Ritmo Alegre is a group that has its roots in the Latino community of the Rogue Valley with many ties to Family and heritage in Mexico. Because the group was founded in the context of a local high school and the two directors are both teachers, the group has strong ties to local schools and staff. The group's mission is to empower youth through dance and to serve as cultural ambassadors, building bridges across local our culturally diverse community. Thus the group actively seeks to include dancers of a wide variety of backgrounds  and prides itself in performing in events as diverse as the Chinese New Year parade, Mexican Independence Festivals, Jackson County Fair, Pear Blossom Parade, Cinco de Mayo Festivals, Talent Harvest Festival and Gold Dust Days in Gold Hill. By performing in these various venues and contexts, the group hopes to reach out to people of all walks of life and all cultures to create a deeper mutual acceptance and appreciation and to forge new friendships.
