Ashland Taiko

Performing in the 2016 Green Show on Wednesday, July 20 and Saturday, August 20

This is their third season at the OSF Green Show.

Multi-generational community group presents joyful and energetic Taiko drumming

Ashland Taiko began as a school music program in 2000 under the direction of music teacher Pam Vellutini at the now closed Briscoe Elementary School in Ashland, Oregon. Children were introduced to the Japanese art form of Taiko drumming during their music classes, and those interested had the opportunity to pursue and study Taiko in more depth through a lunch recess program. In the 2001 – 2002 school year, parents and members of the community requested classes, and Ashland Taiko was born. Ashland Taiko had its debut performance at the Martin Luther King Celebration in Ashland in 2002. Currently fourteen members make up the community performance ensemble with 25 + children, teens and adults studying Taiko in afternoon and evening classes.

Pam offers classes for children and adults interested in studying Taiko. For information on class schedules, lessons or workshops contact: [email protected] or 541-482-4234
