Musical comedies and plays: (with lyricist Lorenz Hart) On your Toes, Babes in Arms, the Boys from Syracuse, Pal Joey. His partnership with Richard Rodgers was the most successful in Broadway history; collaborations included Oklahoma!, Carousel, The King and I, South Pacific, Allegro, Me and Juliet, Pipe Dream, Flower Drum Song, The Sound of Music; music written specifically for the big screen, State Fair, and television, Cinderella.

Producer credits: Rodgers & Hammerstein presented plays, musicals and revivals, including John van Druten's I Remember Mama, Anita Loos' Happy Birthday, Irving Berlin's Annie Get Your Gun, the national tour of Show Boat and six of their own stage musicals; produced the motion picture version of Oklahoma!, founded music publishing firm Williamson Music.
