Darleen Ortega

Darleen Ortega lives in Portland, Oregon and has served as a judge of the Oregon Court of Appeals since 2003.  She is the only woman of Hispanic heritage and the first woman of color to serve on an Oregon appellate court.  Before joining the Court of Appeals, she practiced law, first in Detroit, Michigan (1989-1992) and then in Portland, where she specialized in complex civil cases and appeals.  Darleen has been a leader in many state and local bar associations, including several minority bar associations, and has been recognized for her work in equipping women and minorities to succeed in law.  She also serves on the board of Northwest Health Foundation.  Darleen has been a member of the Festival since 2000 and has been making regular trips to Ashland to see OSF productions since the early 1980s.  She has been writing film criticism on her blog, www.opinionatedjudge.blogspot.com, for several years, and her reviews regularly appear in the Portland Observer.
