World Premiere a Complex Work at OSF

Excerpt from Grants Pass Daily Courier, Kathleen Alaks
April 24, 2009

The drama surrounding what was known as the Gunpowder Plot is at the center of a new play by Bill Cain, which had its world premiere Saturday night in the Oregon Shakespeare Festival's Angus Bowmer Theatre.

Equivocation is a dark comedy that resonates with political intrigue and reverberates with broad humor. Its complex structure - with the action jumping in time and setting and the actors switching in and out of myriad characters - is imaginatively directed by Bill Rauch and creatively reflected by scenic designer Christopher Acebo.

With its complex subject matter and striking violence (two hangings and a beheading) and at nearly three hours, Equivocation is probably not for everyone. But serious theater-goers will find it a rich theatrical and emotional experience.
