Ashland, Ore.--Following up on last season's year-end Hip-Hop Boot Camp, the Oregon Shakespeare Festival is hosting a "Mixing Texts Workshop" as part of a project where Festival actors and guest artists explore the intersection of hip-hop, spoken word aesthetics and classical theatre. This season's five-day intensive program will end with a public performance by four of the participating guest artists.
The event will be held from 7:00-9:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 5 in the New Theatre. General admission tickets are $20.00; $10.00 for students with valid ID and OSF company members. OSF's Community Producer Claudia Alick will host the event. Tickets will be on sale at the OSF Box Office from 6:00-7:00 p.m. before the performance on the 5th.
The performers are: Adam Matta, a vocal percussionist and sound effect artist, a beatbox maestro, who is also the 2007-09 Artist in residence at Cornell University; Baba Brinkman, who has created "The Rap Canterbury Tales," which he has toured around the world; Nikki Klaymoon, performing "The 6th Vowel," a hybrid of dance and spoken-word that is a unique form of physical storytelling within the hip-hop consciousness; and Reg e Gaines, considered by many to be a founder of hip-hop theater, in a rare and special performance.
