Ashland, Ore.--Festival Latino is a first for the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, the realization of a dream by new Artistic Director Bill Rauch and the OSF company to celebrate Hispanic/Latino culture on the OSF campus, and to offer open-captioned performances of OSF's work in Spanish.
Festival Latino helps keep "Festival" in the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. From July 23-27 OSF will host free outdoor performances of music and dance by local and regional artists, as well as performances by students from Guanajuato, Ashland's sister-city in Mexico.
In addition, a number of educational events will be offered in both English and Spanish. These events include Park Talks, a lecture by playwright Luis Alfaro, Prefaces to the plays, Backstage Tours and Workshops. Bilingual materials will also be made available.
OSF thanks its Community Partner, La Clinica del Valle and the event sponsors: the National Endowment for the Arts, the Oregon Arts Commission and The Ford Foundation.
