Ashland, Ore. - Welcome Home, Jenny Sutter, a heartfelt, humorous and engaging story about one female Marine's return home from Iraq, closed on June 20 at OSF's New Theatre in preparation for its transfer to the Kennedy Center Festival of New American Plays in Washington, D.C. The entire cast of the OSF production will perform the play at the Kennedy Center July 19-27.
When he announced that the world premiere of Julie Marie Myatt's Welcome Home, Jenny Sutter would be on the 2008 playbill, new artistic director Bill Rauch was resolute that OSF offer two complimentary tickets to active duty military, reservists and veterans as a way of saying thank you and welcome home. Over 1,500 veterans, active duty military and their guests took advantage of this offer.
"We appreciate OSF reaching out to the veteran community with this production", said Rhonda K. Haney, public affairs specialist for the VA Southern Oregon Rehabilitation Center and Clinics. "It helped bring to light to the general public the subject of veterans and what they endure during and after a period of serving our country."
The play inspired OSF to create new partnerships and programs around the production. The Veterans of Foreign Wars, Grizzly Post 353, served as Community Partner for the production, and Melissa Steinman, a member of the Post and a veteran of the Iraq war, served as OSF's military advisor on the play.
Welcome Home, Jenny Sutter will run July 19-27 in the Kennedy Center's Terrace Theater. All tickets are $25.00. For more information, go to the Kennedy Center website.
