The Oregon Shakespeare Festival (OSF) is seeking an inclusive team player with initiative and tenacity in problem solving to join our exceptional lighting department in the role of Master Electrician. OSF mounts 11 to 12 shows in rotating repertory with close to 900 performances per season. The Lighting department is responsible for lighting and changing over up to five shows per day, six days a week, in three theatres.
Major responsibilities include but are not limited to planning, preparing and assigning tasks to the lighting crew to meet design goals; overseeing lighting technicians in each phase of the lighting process from plot to strike; troubleshooting and performing repairs of lighting, projection and atmospheric equipment; enforcing theatrical best practices and safety protocols; programming moving and conventional lighting; determining and implementing the best console layouts, macros, soft keys and virtual magic sheets; providing on-call technical support; understudying lighting technicians; and assisting Lighting Department Manager with some administrative and organizational tasks.
A bachelor’s degree in technical theatre is preferred, equivalent work experience will be considered in lieu of college degree, in addition, 3 years of progressive work experience are required, which should include operation of conventional and moving lights and computerized lighting consoles, creation of reading light plots and working knowledge of NFPA 70: NEC Article 520. In addition to minimal qualifications, preference will be given to applicants with experience including rigging, electronics, and carpentry and/or welding.
Year-round position begins on April 15, 2014. Annual salary range is $39,000 to $46,800; final offer will be made based on experience.
