Director/Musical Director Amanda Dehnert and the Oregon Shakespeare Festival are creating an exciting opportunity for musicians in the Rogue Valley
The Into the Woods
orchestra is a blend of adult professional and student pre-professional musicians. This orchestra will not only be the largest hosted on the Elizabethan Stage, but also represents a wonderful opportunity for emerging pre-professional artists to have a true master-apprentice experience. From the director:
"I was profoundly influenced by the opportunities I was given as a high-school musician to play alongside professionals, be paid for my work, and at the same time have a safety net of people around me who were interested in teaching me what they knew after 10, 20, 30 years in the field. I don't think I would have taken the path I took had I not started to spread my wings just that little bit in a supportive but professional environment. And this is a major theme of Into the Woods
: how we support the generations below us. It's the right score and the right project."
Into the Woods
runs from June until mid-October in the outdoor Allen Elizabethan Theatre. Orchestra rehearsals begin mid-spring.
WE ARE SEEKING YOUNG MUSICIANS (high school through early college; exceptions made for extraordinary middle-school players) who are dedicated to their instrument, love to play, and ready to work, for these instruments:
Flute or Flute/Piccolo
FIRST ROUND OF YOUTH AUDITIONS WILL BE HELD JANUARY 18-21. Please prepare an excerpt from your current repertoire (solo or solo section from ensemble). We will ask you to play scales in two octaves. And we'll talk with you a bit.
WE ARE ALSO SEEKING adult musicians who are interested in joining an ensemble that values both excellence and mentorship FOR THESE INSTRUMENTS: Violin, Viola, Bass, Flute/Piccolo, Clarinet, Bassoon, Horn, Trumpet
ADULT AUDITIONS are being held JANUARY 20-21 Please be prepared to play a short excerpt from your current repertoire and to talk with us.
FINALLY, WE ARE LOOKING FOR coaches for our young players in all the instruments listed for youth. Coaches will work with the apprentice players in the months leading up to production, helping them through the more difficult passages, devising practice schedules, answering questions about musical theatre notation, and serving as a general support system to guide the student through the preparation as is necessary such that the work does not impact their private study.
ALL POSITIONS ARE PAID.
IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN BEING PART OF THIS PROGRAM, PLEASE E-MAIL YOUR NAME, INSTRUMENT, PHONE NUMBER, AND SCHOOL LEVEL (if youth) TO: email@example.com
. We will contact you immediately.
WE LOOK FORWARD TO HEARING FROM YOU!
