Costume Designer, Creative Consultant & Dramaturg, How I Learned What I Learned

Constanza Romero is August Wilson’s widow and the Executive Director of the August Wilson Legacy LLC. She has helped to guide and nurture countless productions of Wilson’s ten-play American Century Cycle, both domestically and abroad. In six seasons at OSF: The Liquid Plain, Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, The Trip to BountifulTopdog/Underdog, Richard IIThe Comedy of Errors. Currently Romero is the Artistic Director for the August Wilson permanent exhibit entitled August Wilson: The Writer’s Landscape, at the August Wilson African American Cultural Center in Pittsburgh, PA. Romero served as Executive Director for the recent Netflix film Ma Rainey's Black Bottom and the documentary Giving Voice. Romero is a Tony-nominated costume designer for Wilson’s Fences and Gem of the Ocean. Her other Broadway costume design credits include The Mountain Top, Seven Guitars, and The Piano Lesson. She holds an MFA in Design from the Yale School of Drama and lives in Seattle with her and Mr. Wilson’s daughter, Azula Carmen Wilson. Constanza’s work on this production is dedicated to the irreplaceable Wilsonian Warriors Anthony Chisolm and Harvey Blanks.
