Zahra Detweiler

(she/her/hers)

Robyn, Chorus and Ensemble in Hairspray

Zahra’s participation in Hairspray is a dream come true. She has always wanted to be an actor, a wish she announced to her second-grade teacher when asked what she wanted to be when she grew up. Zahra enjoyed participating in her elementary school plays, but her love for the stage really began in the beautiful theater of Merrimack Hall Performing Arts’ education program for special needs in Huntsville, Alabama from 2010–2014. Here she attended multiple classes per week in dance, theatre, creative writing and performance and participated in two main public performances per year, including the speaking role of the Mom in My Holiday Adventure.

When Zahra moved to Ashland, her love for the arts inspired her to rally parents and community members to start a similar program, Ashland Project UP Performing Arts, in 2015 so she could continue her passion. Her Project UP roles include Gabriella in High School Musical, Nun in The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Santa in Santa’s Cookie Problem, Our Chorus Line and Grateful.

Zahra is a 2018 graduate of Ashland High School.
